Ring route to the Matese massif, the mountain range of the Samnite Apennines, comprised between two regions (Molise and Campania) and four provinces (Campobasso, Isernia, Caserta and Benevento).
The highest peak is located in Molise, in the municipality of Roccamandolfi, in the province of Isernia, and is Mount Miletto, 2050 m a.s.l. Followed by Gallinola, 1923 m a.s.l., Mount Mutria, 1823 m a.s.l. Mount Erbano in the municipality of Gioia Sannitica (1385 m a.s.l.) and Mount Maio. The base camp of our trip, which will host us every evening , will be a farm and agritourism company, located on the plateau of the Matese mountain range at an altitude of 900 meters, and covers an area of about 347 hectares. It is surrounded by beech forests and is crossed by several streams that feed the nearby Matese karst lake.

General Program Outline
Day 1
Arrival in the afternoon
Dinner at the farm, briefing with guides and overnight stay

Day 2
After a few hours' walk, we arrive at the most uncovered part of Macchia Strinata 1629 asl, from which we can admire a truly unique landscape: Lake Matese and the peaks of the Apennines, Monte Maio and the Gallinola and Miletto chain, the latter being the highest peak of the Matese mountains (2050 m a.s.l.), located in the centre of the massif and dividing the Campania and Molise regions.

Continuing through flowering fields, we arrive at another peak, Mount Mutria 1822 metres above sea level. It has a long terminal ridge on the east-west axis, about 5 km long, consisting of seven limestone grottoes; between one grotto and the next there are large clearings and meadows, used for grazing sheep and horses in the summer months. Further down, the beech forests become more and more dense as one descends in altitude.

The descent to the valley on the first day is through the Cusanaro valley, characterised by a constant slope and a deep bed of leaves hiding rocks and large roots. Upon returning to the farm, dinner awaits us after tending and grooming the horses.

Day 3
The second day of the trip is dedicated to the deepest secrets of this nature. First a spectacular ascent to Pianellone, where we can admire the grandeur of Lake Matese, and then the journey continues to one of the most spectacular abysses in Europe. The Pozzo della Neve abyss, it opens in the beech forest, within the WWF Oasis of Guardiaregia - Campochiaro, in a landscape of high environmental value, known for waterfalls, torrents, canyons and mountains with steep walls. The day's route of around 20 km, broken up by a packed lunch, takes us back once again to our Agrituirsmo, where we will all eat dinner together.

Day 4
The last day of the trip is dedicated to exploring Serra delle Giumente, Miralago and Monte Maio.
The hike to reach the summit is highly spectacular, with a 360° view, the Campania coastline with Ischia, Vesuvius, Capri and the Faito; on the other side, the view opens out over the Apennines, with the Meta in full view, but it goes from the Lepini and the Castelli to the heart of Campania, the Partenio, the Taburno and even the Picentini, passing through Cairo and Montecassino: something to take your breath away. The return to the Agriturismo is for lunch, where we will say goodbye to the horses before sitting down all together for the last time
