The journey begins in a picturesque hilly landscape verdant with olive trees, almost on the border between Sannio and Molise, perched on the slope of a mighty cliff. The historical origins of Morcone, an agricultural and commercial centre, date back to the Samnite period, but certain information comes from the Longobard period, when it was a castaldato in 776 A.D. and an Episcopal seat from 1058 to 1122.
Departing from the Central Apennines, between the provinces of Benevento and Campobasso, Lake Campolattaro provides the perfect backdrop to this scenery nestled between hills and mountains, we will venture to discover a beautiful stretch of the royal sheep-track Pescasseroli-Candela until we reach the ancient Roman city of Altilia, a truly beautiful, historical and exciting place!

From Altilia we will leave the sheep-track to reach ancient villages on the slopes of the northern slope of the Matese, from here we will set off to discover all the secrets of the WWF oasis of Guardiaregia-Campochiaro: Pozzo della Neve, Cul di bove, the Tre Torrette, the Tre Frati, hectares and hectares of uncontaminated beech forests.

The untouched Molise

Molise is one of the most beautiful and authentic regions in Italy. Riding a horse then is truly fantastic. Surrounded by nature and unspoiled landscapes, the step of the fantastic horses will make you glimpse an alternation of stretches of water, sheep tracks, forests, hills and glades.

General Program Outline

Day 1
Arrival in the afternoon
Dinner at the farm, briefing with guides and overnight stay

Day 2
The trek begins by walking along a section of one of the five royal sheep-tracks: the Pescasseroli Candela.
The path climbs very gently, except for a few points where the ascent is more rugged. The area is rich in water and there are fountains and drinking troughs for animals along the way. The lunch break is rich in tradition and charm. Consumed in the places of ancient history, SAEPINUM, the majestic Roman city of Sepino. The unearthed city is an incredibly well-preserved testimony of a city in the Roman province. In the ruins of the archaeological area of Altilia- Sepino (for some, the little Pompeii), visitors can enjoy an evocative experience in contact with history, in a place that still retains all the characteristics of the ancient urban structure.
The journey resumes after lunch towards the village of Guardiaregia. This village is immersed in the green Matese, close to the splendid Quirino gorges, and is made up of small streets and narrow alleys. The day ends with a dinner rich in local products.

Day 3
It is a full-immersion in one of the largest WWF oases in Italy, that of Guardiaregia-Campochiaro. Fascinated by its natural beauty and unique landscapes, you will enjoy a relaxing silence. The oasis covers more than 2000 hectares in a mountainous environment, with altitudes between 600 and 1823 metres above sea level at Mount Mutria. We climb up the Molise side of the Matese Massif. Packed lunch with breathtaking views!
In the afternoon, we will devote ourselves to the deepest secrets of nature at one of the most spectacular abysses in Europe: POZZO DELLA NEVE and CUL DI BOVE. The Pozzo della Neve abyss opens up in the beech forest, inside the WWF Oasis of Guardiaregia - Campochiaro, in a landscape of high environmental value, known for waterfalls, torrents, gorges, canyons and mountains with steep walls.

Day 4
We set off again in the spectacular oasis to admire a natural phenomenon that has been around for 500 years. Three spectacular centuries-old beech trees called 'The Three Friars', located a few metres apart, you will be struck by their size. the oldest is over 500 years old.
At the foot of the three beeches, located on the old road from Guardiaregia to Benevento, legend has it that some important historical episodes took place. Among many, one recalls that of three brothers who were hanged on the spot at the beeches for stealing cattle. As if by magic, on stormy evenings, the violent whirling of the wind and snow on the huge, ancient foliage of the beech trees almost seems to recall the screaming voices of the three brothers who had just been caught. Amidst suiggestions, legends and beautiful landscapes, we return to the farm, to enjoy a last lunch all together.
